Why LUX* Tea Horse Road Benzilan

HIKE WITH LOCAL MOUNTAINEERS
Protected by the high mountains, Benzilan is known for being the perfect base to hike around the majestic peaks of Baima and Meili Snow Mountains. Whether on a quest for mushrooms or willing to conquer new heights, you will be accompanied by local mountaineers to discover how the caravans used to make their way through the mountains.

DINE AS THE LOCALS DO
Homemade rice noodles, fried potatoes’ cakes and the incredible variety of fresh local produce are just some of the Tibetan delicacies on which you will feast while in Benzilan. But if you are up for an authentic dining experience, our team will introduce you to your very own Tibetan host, who will make sure you don't leave the house with an empty tummy.

NIXI BLACK POTTERY AND THE MULTI-SHAPED WOODEN BOWLS
A story known only by a few, ancient caravans used to cross Benzilan on their way to Lhasa to collect precious local handcrafts, the NIXI black pottery and the multi-shaped wooden bowls. Originally used to store and carry the local barley-made flour known as Tsampa along the Tea Horse Road, the wooden bowls epitomize the artistic skills of the talented Tibetan craftsmen.

CHANT TO THE KAWAGEBO -A SPIRITUAL PLACE OF RARE TRANQUILITY
Known as the most important holy abode after the Songzanlin lamasery in Shangri-La, few kilometers away from Benzilan rests the lamasery of Dongzhulin, a spiritual place of rare tranquility. Connect with your inner-self while surrounded by sacred mountains with a morning meditation conducted by our in-house master and relax over a cup of tea with one of the resident spiritual guides of the monastery to know the untold stories of the muleteers and their resilience.
